New York State Seed Funding Grant Program - The New York State Seed Funding Grant Program was created to provide assistance to early-stage small businesses to succeed in a recovering New York State economy. Grants of $5,000 to $25,000 are available to small businesses that started business on September 1, 2018 or later and have been operational for at least six months. Learn more and apply here.

Abandoned and Non-Compliant Outdoor Dining Sheds - On August 18th Mayor Adams announced a new multi-agency enforcement initiative focused on removing abandoned sheds in the Open Restaurants program. The new task force led by the Department of Transportation will also focus on removing sheds identified as egregious violators of the Open Restaurants program guidelines. Make sure your structure is in compliance. The NYC Department of Small Business Services offers no-cost compliance advice. Our compliance advisors do not issue violations or fines. Small Business Advocates Office Hours – SBS is now hosting Small Business Advocate office hours at the Business Solutions Centers in October. Businesses can make an appointment or drop in to speak with an Advocate, who can help business owners to:

  • Understand City rules and requirements to avoid fines and violations
  • Connect to government agencies to expedite permits and licenses
  • Learn about violations that have been received and how to address them
